If you’ve not clicked yet, it’s evident I’m a wee bit lazy, sometimes. The laziness tends to kick in at around 5:45 when I get in from work and flop dramatically on the sofa, moving only for wine and to complain about work with my flatmate. The endless stream of shop-bought burgers in summer can get a little tedious, so sometimes cover my burgers in nice stuff.

Pimp my burger

^Did I really just write that? This recipe has no real measures just something to play with but it’s my way of making shop-bought burgers seem a little more exciting.

  • Paprika
  • Panko Crumbs (Or bread crumbs)
  • Garlic Salt
  • Crushed mustard seeds
  • Black Pepper
  • Chilli Powder
  • Cumin
  • BBQ Sauce
  • Large egg
  • Shop-bought burgers

Here’s what happened (makes two burgers):

Whisk the egg with about a teaspoon of BBQ sauce. I used Heinz Sweet and Sticky, but use whichever is your favourite. Set this aside.

In bowl mix, 1 tablespoon paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic salt, 1 teaspoon crushed mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon black pepper, half a tablespoon chilli powder and 1 teaspoon cumin (roughly, you can make it spicier/less spicy/chuck whatever’s in your spice rack in).

Then, mix the dry mix with enough panko crumbs (or bread crumbs) to cover your burgers. Cover the burgers in the BBQ/egg mix, then coat them in the dry mix.

Coated Burgers

Leave them to set in the fridge for about 10/15 mins. In the meantime, you could put some chips in the oven or even MAKE THEM (I went with frozen chips…).

I sprinkled mine with Herbs De Provence coz I'm a bit fancy ;)

Take them out and pop them in the oven till cooked. I used my standard oven settings at about 180 degrees C, you could also grill them or put them on an actual BBQ :o.

This is something you can do with pretty much whichever spices and such you have hanging around, it’s pretty simple and makes dinner feel a little more summery without going through the ordeal of getting out the BBQ (I’m making it sound horrendous..).

If you’re not a big BBQ fan you can drop the sauce, or try mayonnaise, anything, go crazy!

Summer Quick Meal

You can lie and say you made the burgers too, I won’t tell. Enjoy.
