I purchased the Velvet Matte nail polish from Rimmel not long ago. I absolute adore the colour. It’s a deep plum and goes on exactly as you’d expect. It comes out with a lovely matte effect.
My only issue with it, is that after a day or two it loose it’s matte finish – pretty disappointing. But hey at least the colour still looks good!
To try and keep the finish a little longer I bought the Barry M Matte Topcoat. The topcoat is on the left in the pictures, on the one above it’s a little wet!
As you can see from the pics it looks a little shiny on first application but don’t let that fool you! Once it’s dry it definitely has a matte finish I’m not sure these pics do it justice.
I’ve only painted half the nail with the top coat so you can see the difference. It’s slightly shinier than the Velvet matte but it still a great top coat and preserves the matte finish for a bit longer!
My nails did chip quite quickly, though when I used more coats of the velvet matte it lasted a little longer.
Even though they aren’t perfect they are both reasonably prices polishes and I would buy them again, for a quick mani they are perfect.
I think for matte topcoats, I need to try one by Modelsown or Nails Inc as well– I’ve heard good things about them!
I’ve just recently tried the topcoat on a standard polish as well and Barry M does a good job!
