I have to start by saying a HUUUGE thank you to Mac and the team at Harvey Nichols Leeds, for inviting me into their store for my first ever makeover! I’ve never had a full face of makeup done by someone else, so it was a new experience for me. Also, did I mention, it was my birthday!
My make-up artist was an absolute delight. She talked me through the whole process, the products she was using and made sure I was happy with the look at every step! Head to the bottom to shop this post.
“Zahra chose some of our hero products including, Studio Fix Fluid, Pro Longwear concealer and Mineralize Skin finish to create this beautiful flawless skin with a pop of purple on eyes and lip.” – @myartistcommunityhnleeds
The artist started by using Oil Control Lotion, as I tend to get oily skin. I’ve actually bought this myself after my appointment, as it’s doing wonders for my skin in this god-awful British heatwave. Same again for the classic prime & prep water. I forgot how much I loved it! I’ve been meaning to buy it again for years. It. Is. A. BEAUTY. I use it after moisturiser, and sometimes to freshen up my makeup or before I apply powder. She also used natural radiance primer on me at the appointment, which in combination with the above gave me a lovely base.
Onto foundation… now I’ve not used Studio Fix foundation in years. I’ve been flitting around between a few brands, and again Mac has won me over. The new shades meant that I could get a better match with NW48, combined with Pro Longwear Concealer in NC50 (around my brows, under the eyes etc) and Studio Fix Powder in NW5. I have more orangey undertones in my skin, so the mix of shades stops me from looking like an oompa loompa. Out of this, I now use most of these products in my usual routine – it feels good to be a Mac girl again.
My eyes were treated with this delicious Burgundy x9 kit. Before I go on, on my brows she used Deep Dark Brunette and an eyeshadow in Ricepaper to highlight. I’ve done a few swatches of the eyeshadow so you can fall in love with it as much as I did.
The above colour was used on the lid of my eyes. To finish, she lined my eyes with a classic mac liner and made my lashes look lovely with Extended Play.
My artist was lovely, making sure she was finding out my favourite colours. No beauty-counter-I-came-out-like-a-clown horror stories for me. She picked out a lovely purple satin lipstick called Smoked Purple – new fave colour! It reminds me of another Mac fav of mine, Cyber, but with a smoother, more matte finish.
As I mentioned earlier, the artist used Studio Fix Powder to set my make up. I keep it in my bag now, I go through so many different powders but it seems Mac again, has the one for me. I stopped using it for a while as I was worried N45 was a bit too orange for me, but low and behold hear comes along N48! Oh and I nearly forgot to mention…
That Highlight Tho
Yaaaas /claps. I needed to find a good highlighter and I love this! Swiss Choc, Film Noir and Cheeky Bronze were used on my cheeks to highlight my cheekbones. I much preferred the mix of brown powder and bronze on my skin tone, than the classic pinky blushers – I’ll be using these shades all the time now! And of course, the beautiful Extra Dimension Skinfinish did a lovely job at giving me highlight just where I need it, without blinding anyone.
