Think it’s time to decorate your home? Sure, all the paint and wallpaper that you use on the walls will play a big part in how the finished room looks and feels, but you shouldn’t forget about picking the right pieces of furniture for the room either.

I love iconic furniture design and styles, as they will never go out of fashion. In fact, some have been loved by interior designers for well over half a century now! Want to incorporate some of these into your new living room? Here are some of my favorites; I know you will fall in love with them too!

Marcel Breuer’s Wassily Chair

The official name for this unique looking chair is the Model B3 Chair. But it soon became known as the Wassily chair after Breuer made one especially for the artist Wassily Kandinsky. These chic chairs are often made out of steel and leather, although some alternative materials are often used as well. If I let you have five guesses as to what the inspiration was behind this famous chair, do you think you’d figure it out? No? Well, let me tell you. Breuer was actually inspired by the design of bicycles! Pretty weird, huh?!

The Chesterfield Sofa

Good old Chesterfield sofas have been a feature in many living rooms for a number of years. As a matter of fact, the Chesterfield was the very first sofa to be made out of leather. As a result, it gained a reputation for being a very high-class piece of furniture to own indeed and was quickly snapped up by the rich and famous of the time. The distinct style of deep buttons embedded into the sofa makes it look very sophisticated. These days, you are most likely to see these awesome sofas in libraries and fancy houses – why not bring some of this elegance into your living room?!

Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair

If you want to bring a touch of modernism to your new living room, think about investing in a Barcelona chair. This is a very iconic piece of furniture, and I’m sure you will recognise one when you see a picture of one. They are often paired with a matching foot stool for even more style and comfort. Van der Rohe is a very respectable name in the world of furniture design, and he was even appointed to the notable position of head of Bauhaus in the 1930s. Buy a Barcelona Chair, and you’ll have a piece of history in your home!

Isamu Noguchi’s Coffee Table

If you want somewhere very fancy to stand your mug of coffee, think about investing in a Noguchi Coffee Table. Again, this is another piece of modernist furniture. As well as being a very practical piece of furniture, the design of these tables is exquisite, and it will really add some stylish substance to your decorated living room. Remember to always use a coaster – you won’t want to stain your fancy coffee table!
