It sounds crazy to some, I know, but I’ve now got semi-permanent eyeliner and eyebrows! I think if it’s not something you’ve considered before it sounds nuts, but it’s shaved a good half an hour off my getting ready time (seriously!). I’ll ramble on, but the before and afters are at the bottom if you‘re feeling a bit tl;dr.
I saw Jordana Stringer at Karen Betts Professional for both treatments. On my eyeliner, I also had Vikki Banton at Karen Betts Professional doing one eye and Jordana doing the other – teamwork makes the dream work right. I had my eyeliner done a while ago now, so whilst I was in for my eyebrows I had my re-touch and it looks faaaaab.
I could not be happier with the results. For me, my eyebrows are thin, faint and just not the one. I’ve got sick of having to draw them on everyday, and just generally keep them up. With my eyeliner, I draw it on the same every day. I thought, why not! In comparison to most, I went for quite a large eyeliner, but most people go for a lash enhancement (a thin line around the top and bottom) or a baby wedge (a small wedged eyeliner).
What is permanent cosmetics? Permanent cosmetics are a type of cosmetic tattooing (also known as micropigmentation, permanent makeup or semi-permanent cosmetics). The most common treatments are available for eyes, brows, lips. The effects available can range from a natural enhancement to subtly improve the facial features to the imitation of make-up.
What does the treatment involve? At Karen Betts Professional, an initial consultation will be used to discuss your requirements and help you decide on the result that will best suit you. Everything from your lifestyle, image, hair, skin tone and facial features will be taken into consideration. The artist will then custom blend colours to perfectly match your requirements –their skill as artists coming to the fore during the design stage. The treatment itself involves gently implanting microscopic particles of pigment into the reticular layer of skin with a unique tool – it’s not like your traditional tattoo machine.
How long will it last? This varies from person to person because skin type, diet, genetics and environmental factors can all contribute to how long the pigments will be retained. For instance, sun bed use and sun exposure have a bearing on the pigment retention, but this can be prevented with proper protection.
As a guide, it could be anything between one to five years before a new treatment is required, although refresher colour boosts are recommended for maintenance during this time. Once the colour starts to change you will know that you are ready for your refresher colour boost.
I know this is the bit everyone actually wants to see… so here goes!
On my brows, Jordana used a mixture of hair strokes and shading because I wanted more of a natural ‘HD Brows’ look, as opposed to just adding hair strokes into my brow.
For my eyeliner, I opted for solid black. However you can choose other colours (green looks LUSH) and even go for a ‘butterfly’ shadow effect where you have a smokey eye or different colours.
Honestly, my brows did not hurt. You do get numbing cream applied, and they can apply more in the treatment if you do feel it. I did drift off to sleep at point, no word of a lie!
My eyeliner, was more uncomfortable, however, I did go for an extremely big latino flick for a permanent treatment – but I’m hardcore. It feels weird because you’re conscious of moving your eye around, but they know what they’re doing!
As I said, I’m unbelievably happy. I can’t recommend Jordana enough for giving me my brows back! If you have overplucked, hair loss or just want them to look perfect every morning, go for it. Both Jordana and Vikki have offers on certain days where you can book in with £100 off at the moment, so snap it up. Visit the links to check out their pages.
If you want to ask any questions, go for it! I can answer as best as I can or get one of the artists to jump in. I’ll have to make another post as it’s a two-part procedure, and my brows will need a re-touch/top-up in a few weeks. This also gives me a chance to make any changes I fancy, go darker or just re-enforce the hair strokes. Once fully healed I’ll share more pics!
