These are my three well-used primers. None of them are quite perfect. I still feel like I’m missing out on something. I also now have a fourth.. this is a serious issue.
Maybeline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser
I heard beauty bloggers raving about this. But I have to say I’m not sure if I like it that much. It’s okay but I tend to like a matte effect, I feel like this makes my makeup look slightly more shiny and feels kinda greasy. It is okay in small amounts if I’m not wearing any foundation and just want smooth out my face a little, but I wouldn’t buy this again!
Smashbox Photo Matte Anti-Shine
This is probably the best of the bunch. It blends well, definitely gives a matte finish and works well under or mixed into make-up.You do only need a small amount, however, it is quite a small tube and quite pricey! I think I will look into other Smashbox primers, I have a little sample packet of their Photo Finish primer which I’ve not used yet could be onto something here!
No7 Beautifully Matte
I have to say this definitely is matte, almost a bit too matte! Without moisturiser beforehand (even with really), it goes on and drys quite quickly so it’s pretty hard to spread. I’ve also found I’ve had to be careful that it doesn’t make my foundation look ‘cracked’ and uneven. It’s okay in small amounts but I’m not too sure about this one! I do like No7 products in general so I may try another – plus it’s nearly finished.
Benefit Pore Professional
I’ve just picked up a favourite of mine, it’s fairly affordable, goes on quite smooth and feels nice on your skin. I’d say it’s similar to the Smashbox primer, though not quite as matte. I do feel like it definitely minimises your pores. I do tend to go back to this as my ‘go-to primer’ though it’s still not quite there…
I’ve heard good things about Laura Mercier primers (the price has put me off in case I don’t like it! I definitely need to try it out first) and I’m a die-hard Nars fan, I should really try theres too! Smashbox is my favourite so far. I’m still looking for something that makes me poreless and keeps my make-up as matte as possible. Can someone just follow me round with an airbrush? Why isn’t photoshop real life?
Any primer suggestions? @sarahxsarah
